Writing Your Self

Cascade B

We write our selves – the us-es that we create and delete whenever we build a social network account or make a website or even change a profile picture – constantly. We make and unmake our identities in a constant process of composition and revision. Our online selves are texts of our making. In this workshop, we will explore what it means to be living in revision – and what we can teach our students about this process.

The decisions that folks make about what’s public and what’s private, and how they create (or recreate) and negotiate their digital identities are completely fascinating. Come explore them during this workshop.

Outcome:

Participants will leave this workshop with a better sense of how audience and purpose collide to create the identities that we have online and will leave better equipped to make intentional decisions about their online compositions of self and identity.
